The hours you work can be flexible to suit you – some people work just 2 hours a week and some people work full time. You do not have to have experience in care work – we will provide all the training you need. You just need to have a caring nature, the ability to relate to other people and the willingness to learn!
JOB DESCRIPTION - HOME CARE WORKER
PURPOSE OF THE JOB.
The purpose of the job is to provide a person centred service to the client, enshrined in the care plan, so that quality of life is enhanced or maintained.
FUNCTION OF THE JOB.
To provide a person centred service to the client (by following the care plan), to enable them to partake in all areas of daily living, including all aspects of personal care, feeding, shopping, preparation of meals, help with domestic duties e.g. housework ironing and shopping etc. In addition the carer will be required to keep and maintain records and to act as key worker where necessary. All carers are required to carry out their duties following guidelines for safe and best practice and in accordance with the policies and procedures laid down by FHC Ltd. It is not the responsibility of carers to perform nursing tasks.
PROBATIONARY PERIOD
During the first three months all carers will undertake the common induction standard training programme and employment should be considered to be probationary during this time.
HEALTH AND SAFETY
Employees are required to attend health and safety training and are under obligation to report risks
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Supervision will be quarterly in a group session as well as in quarterly one-to-one sessions with a supervisor – some of which will be carried out in the community. Staff will also receive an annual appraisal.
OPPORTUNITIES
Training is on-going and NVQ training will be available. When management vacancies occur they will always be advertised internally as well as externally.
HOURS
Mutually negotiable and flexible. Management will always try to provide the employee with an amount of work of the employees choosing which in return requires a commitment from the employee. However, unless in cases of emergency, 2 weeks notice is required when a carer intends not to work. A method of communication must be available (mobile phone is ideal) so that the office can contact carers.
PAY AND CONDITIONS
The hourly rate of pay is variable according to experience and qualifications.
A company sick pay scheme is not provided but Freshford Home Care Ltd will pay statutory sick pay. All staff will have access to our stakeholder pension scheme.
PAY ARRANGEMENTS
Carers are paid monthly in arrears by a BACS transfer into their bank accounts on 5th of each month. Should this date fall on a weekend or Bank Holiday payment would be made on the nearest working day prior to the 5th.
ANNUAL LEAVE
Staff are entitled to 4 weeks paid annual leave, excluding bank holidays. Annual leave requests should be given in writing allowing at least two weeks notice. Paid annual leave must only be taken in blocks of one week (7 days)
SICKNESS AND ABSENCE REPORTING
In case of sickness the office must be informed as soon as possible. The office is responsible for providing alternative arrangements for the clients. Carers should not contact their clients direct.
TRAVELLING EXPENSES
The cost of travelling to and from work will not be paid by the Company. However, when visiting certain clients who, live outside the area and for the majority of shopping calls a travelling allowance will be paid.
CAR INSURANCE
Carers who drive should hold the correct car insurance. Further details can be obtained from the office
TRAINING
Carers will receive induction training prior to starting work in the community. NVQ training will then be available for staff along with in-house training which is on-going and addresses the need for updating skills and practices.
Staff are required to read their copy of the Staff Training Manual and make themselves fully aware of it’s contents prior to attending the Staff Induction Course
CREATIVE WORK
Suggestions on how to improve things will always be welcomed. Indeed it is expected that new members of staff will improve and add to the system used. Please share ideas with others at supervision / support meetings.
IDENTITY CARDS
Carers should carry identity cards at all times whilst working for FHC Ltd produce them when requested and always show to each new client. The ID card remains the property of FHC Ltd and must be returned when employment is terminated. Loss must be reported to the office immediately.
